Standardization of the Annual Statistical Report
The annual statistical report is a collection of key indicators that broadly illustrate the hospital's performance across various areas, providing a solid foundation for decision-making. Originally managed by the statistics and clinical records department, our department was tasked by management to standardize the report. This decision was made based on their increased confidence in us and to enhance data accuracy.
As a first step, I dedicated myself to understanding how the report functioned. I approached the experts responsible for the report and gathered as much information as possible. It was challenging because the person handling the file had limited knowledge of its contents and lacked communication skills, making it difficult for me to ask the right questions. Additionally, as this was my first project, I lacked prior knowledge of many internal terms, so I had to rely heavily on my manager to complete the work.
Once I gathered that information, I focused on learning the calculations step by step and extracted the indicators present in the report. I compiled a list with general information about each indicator, its current status, and whether it needed to be added or updated. I found many indicators that were outdated or could be integrated with others, which allowed for greater efficiency and accuracy in the final report.
In total, 63 indicators were developed, each with corresponding documentation based on it's level of importance (standard, important, or critical). For each indicator, I created specific charts that highlighted the most relevant aspects. These were uploaded to our system called "Esfera" to provide stakeholders with access. Below, I present some of the charts created.
